Mistakes are a natural occurrence in life, play, and work. The greatest athletes of all time have made mistakes. Politicians, leaders, and parents all make mistakes. So why is it important to make mistakes?
Making mistakes enables us to learn and grow. Ask successful people, and they will tell you that they learned more from their mistakes than from their successes. Making mistakes forces us to find the proper solution. Making mistakes provides you with the opportunity to explore and envision new processes. Studies have proven that when we make mistakes, it forces us to slow down the process, and we respond slower in the next phase or during our do-over.
It would be best to recognize the difference between making a mistake and failing. When you make a mistake, keep trying and keep working until you make it work. A vital aspect of a mistake is learning and growing from it. However, failure is when you do not learn from your mistakes and repeatedly keep making the same mistake. Failure often has a finality and an end with a limited chance to be resurrected.
Thomas Edison said this about the lightbulb when he asked about the two thousand failed attempts to create the filament for the bulb. “I did not fail in making the element; I learned there are two thousand elements that will not work in the lightbulb.”
